Drainage and utilities, dug, laid and proven

On most jobs the drainage goes in before anything else and is buried before anyone senior looks at it. If a run fails its air test, a manhole gets rejected at adoption stage or a live cable is struck in a service trench, the cost lands weeks later and the programme takes the hit. Main contractors buy this package from us to take that risk off the table.

EJ McGrath installs foul and surface water drainage, gravity and pumped, together with the utility networks that share the same ground. That covers SuDS, attenuation tanks and soakaways, pumping stations and rising mains, manholes and gullies, land drainage and dewatering, plus trenching and ducting for power, comms, gas and water. New and adoptable connections are built to Sewers for Adoption and water authority standards from the first pipe. Bringing a sewer up to standard after a failed inspection is expensive. We would rather pass first time.

Everything is self-delivered. Our own gangs dig, bed, lay, surround, backfill and reinstate, with our own excavators and our own supervision, so there is no interface between a groundworks subcontractor and a drainage subcontractor for your team to manage. Where the drawings show congested or uncertain services, our in-house T-VAC 2 vacuum excavation unit proves them before a bucket goes anywhere near.

Tested, recorded, handed over clean

Nothing gets backfilled on trust. Every run is:

• Laid to line and level, and checked before the surround goes in
• Air tested and CCTV surveyed, with results held on file
• Captured on as-built records as the work proceeds rather than reconstructed at handover

The evidence is on the ground: adoptable drainage and services delivered inside wider S278 and civils packages, new MDPE water mains installed in a live tidal environment, and drainage and ducting laid across campus-scale sites as part of our wider groundworks scope.

We work for main contractors including Kier, BAM Nuttall and Galliford Try, and directly for public authorities, across the South West of England and South Wales. Family-run, CDM compliant, QA led, and used to being the package everything above ground depends on.
