EJ McGrath Construction has been awarded Phase 2 of the Weston Road Retaining Wall Rebuilding Works by North Somerset Council. The contract was let under the council’s highway structures works framework and work starts on site on Monday 13 July 2026.

The existing wall retains Weston Road at Long Ashton and has been assessed as substandard. Phase 2 covers just over 100 metres of wall and follows on from Phase 1, which was completed previously.

The old wall will be taken down in sections and rebuilt from a new reinforced concrete foundation, with a blockwork wall finished in stone to match the original, new drainage behind the wall and the footpath above reinstated. Working in 10-metre bays keeps the road supported and open throughout. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works and access for residents will be maintained.

The works are programmed to complete in late September 2026.

EJ McGrath is a civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Weston-super-Mare. Recent work in North Somerset includes the concrete repairs at Marine Lake.
